Code Geass: Hangyaku no Lelouch R2 17
And unfortunately, that’s the only time you see her today… ;.;
I was really expecting the episode today to be a lot more action packed than it turned out to be, what with the previous episode building upon the grand battle that’s supposed to determine everything. All last episode, they were talking about the utilization of Freya, Chiba’s confession for Toudou (signaling that she’ll probably die before that), and the whole “All Hail Britannia!” vs. “Nippon Banzai!”rally cry. After watching, it makes sense a bit that most of today turned out to be another talking and information episode, so the roller coaster build-up of events would keep going up. Anyways…
“You remind me of my father…I hated my father!”
The entire focus of this episode really revolved around Lelouch trying to take C.C.’s words about friends and finally talk to Suzaku. I had been thinking Lelouch would most likely tell the truth about everything about everything that’s happened to Suzaku; in reality, he did, but he left it in a certain point of view that makes things ambiguous to the listener and make the listener, (in this case, Suzaku), view things in the most literal light possible: that Lelouch rescued him to “gain the trust of the Japanese,” that he had given Euphia the command to massacre the Japanese, that Shirley’s death was “because of me.” Like I said before, it’s all true but not in the sense Suzaku sees it (of course, the audience is the only ones who see it for what it is. ^^;). After some bantering, Suzaku knows that Lelouch’s eyes are similar to his father’s eyes before he killed him, eyes that would endure pain and suffering in order to maintain their lie. This makes me wonder if Suzaku knows that Lelouch isn’t telling the whole truth about what he just told him. Suzaku then makes the effort to try and join Lelouch by bargaining him to end the war and actually become an ally of justice, which will in turn lead Suzaku to rescuing Nunnally. Lelouch agrees and reiterates that together, the two can do anything…
But of course, shit hits the fan, and Schneizel’s orders Kanon to follow Suzaku in order to lead them to Zero. Lelouch takes it as Suzaku setting this up and selling him out once again, and this breaks his spirit to trust him anymore. Using a Geassed Guilford to escape, Lelouch effectively states his friendship with Suzaku to be over.
Well…shit, that sucks.
Luciano had shown a lot of what his personality was like during the last episode, and his fighting style in his Knightmare confirms it: a homicidal combat freak. It’s shown that he enjoys toying with his opponents, as shown here where he asks a rhetorical question to an Akatsuki pilot before goring him through the cockpit with his lance, and that he is also willing to kill his own comrades in order to fight, as shown when he took an allied ship that had been under some heavy fire as a projectile.
Waldstein’s Gallahad, on the other hand, is a lot like I predicted it would be. Lacking any sort of other projectiles, the Excalibur sword it carries is capable of deflecting energy blasts and destroy enemies in a surrounding radius. Aside from this, it has an energy shield to protect it. Though it’s pretty cool, for some reason, it seems to remind me of another Sunrise show…yeah, you can draw comparisons with anything, but this one in particular somehow…
Oh yeah, that’s it.
Well, at any rate, with a sword that big and powerful, you really don’t need much else (lol that’s wut she said o.o). Even Xing Ke’s Shen Hu isn’t enough to make any damage on it…
We’re only 0% power!
Which brings me to another point that Xing Ke’s basically been drained of most of his fighting abilities ever since his debut. He’s been able to best Kallen, who in turn was able to somewhat best Geno and Anya when Guren had it’s upgrade, but was then ass kicked by Geno and now can’t lay a hand on Waldstein. Sure, Waldstein’s the Knight of One and all, and bringing up Shen Hu’s power to only 40% like last time seemed to tax his body, but Xing Ke’s a pretty good pilot in his own right, and I’d like to see him kicking more than grunts around.
I realize this now: Guilford looks like Jin.
Earlier last episode, Jeremiah made a call to Guilford to inform him of Cornelia, which made me wonder if Jeremiah was really going to betray Lelouch. Before the OP, there was also a short clip of Guilford coming to Jeremiah asking about Cornelia’s whereabouts and Guilford showing up to arrest Lelouch with Kanon. Turns out, it was just a mind game to get him to be another puppet. What I’m wondering now is if Jeremiah will eventually Geass Cancel Guilford and convince him to join their side, which I’m suspecting to happen if Lelouch has convinced Cornelia to join him.
So easy even a Geno can do it!
Geno reveals that Suzaku hasn’t shown a genuine smile ever since last year, when he previously attended school with Kallen and Lelouch as students. Seems like another chance to have Suzaku redeem himself and atone later. It’d be nice if he tried to ‘an hero’ himself like Rossiu did in Gurren Lagann, but since Lelouch’s Geass prevents that, probably not likely. Also, I’m starting to get weird feelings that Kallen made yet develop an attraction to Geno since it seems to me he’s been trying to act badass in front of her in order to sweep her off her feet. He might release her, or maybe he’ll take a hit for her later? I don’t really like him, but that’s mainly due to me supporting Lelouch and Kallen getting together, since I’m sticking to my belief that C.C. will die.
We’ve targeted everywhere but South America and Australia! Nothing can stop Cuba now!
Big Boss Charles here comes up for a brief second like C.C. did to pose a sexy smile pose as well. With all his bullshit banter about destroying the gods who make people fight each other and the Sword of Akshata, I’m hoping it won’t be long until he finally shows if his bite is worse than his bark.
Clovis is dead and I know everything. JUST AS PLANNED!
Schneizel now knows about Lelouch being Zero, and from the look of things he certainly knows about Geass as well, even though he has yet to actually state it’s name. I was a bit surprised that Lelouch didn’t try to ask about Marianne to him, or that he even didn’t bring the subject up when he’s learned not to trust people. It’s apparent Schneizel has his own agenda, but what that could mean still isn’t clear.
Rolo + Nunnally = Oh shi-
After causing some havoc with the Gefjon Disturber Lelouch attached to the train, while the Kuro no Kishi-dan attack, Lelouch has ordered Rolo and a covert team in order to retrieve Nunnally. Wow…in the most apparent stupid move ever, Lelouch orders Rolo of all people to secure Nunnally. Why he would allow Rolo, who killed one of the most important people in his life, to rescue Nunnally, THE most important person in his life, is beyond me. If Nunnally dies because of him, I’m going to fucking lose it, though I really doubt it.
Ether Strike!
Suzaku, now known by Schneizel to be close to Lelouch, or Zero, is now asked to end the war using Freya. From the previous shot of Lancelot, it doesn’t look as though it’s been equipped with it’s wings of light yet, seeing as how it still has it’s flight pack attached. I had initially thought that Freya would be a bomb, but I did give my suspicion (read the post for the other episode) that it could be launched as a missile-gun as seen in Gundam SEED. Turns out I was sort of right, but since I don’t see a giant missile on the gun anywhere, Freya seems to have more than one shot. Maybe we’ll get to see soon seeing as how…
PREVIEW:
That looks too suspiciously like Lancelot.
Looks like Orange-kun’s got a new Siegfried…with a Sutherland on top.
Looks like Sayoko will at least provide some protection should Rolo start fagging fucking up the Nunnally operation.
There’s also the whole Ougi and Diethard thing, and the Shinseiken’s suspiciousness of Rolo and Jeremiah, but we’re still not given enough information on Ougi, and the internal collapse of the Kuro no Kishi-dan has been hinted at since episode 14. I won’t cover those until something great happens.
